Millions of Israelis seek shelter after rocket attack from Yemen
Millions of people in Jerusalem and surrounding areas ran to shelters after a rocket was fired by the Houthis from Yemen. No casualties have been reported so far.
A new episode of tension erupted in Israel on Thursday after air raid warning systems were activated in Jerusalem and other areas in central Israel. Millions of Israelis were forced to flee to shelters after a ballistic missile was launched by the Houthi rebel group from Yemen.
The missile was detected by the Israeli defense system and, according to official sources, was intercepted in the air without causing personal or material damage. However, the alert sparked scenes of collective panic in streets, schools, shopping centers, and transportation stations.
The Israeli Army confirmed the incident and directly accused the Houthis of attempting to "destabilize the region and sow terror with Iranian support." Israeli authorities are evaluating a possible military response.
This attack follows a series of hostile actions by the Houthis in support of the Palestinian cause, amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called an urgent meeting of the security cabinet, while the United States and several European countries have expressed their solidarity with Israel.
