GENEVA MUST NOT BECOME A PLAYGROUND FOR VANDALS: Authorized “No-G7” demonstration degenerates into violence, vandalism, and clashes with police

An authorized demonstration against the G7 in Geneva ended in scenes of chaos, with vandals smashing shop windows, setting a vehicle on fire, attacking the police, and vandalizing public property. Despite the clear rules—no violence, no concealment of faces, and respect for the route—knives, axes, batons, gas canisters, and pyrotechnic material were seized. The young UDC Switzerland demands a firm response from the authorities.

  • The “No-G7” demonstration, authorized by Swiss authorities, ended in yet another night of chaos and vandalism in the city of Geneva. Despite being properly authorized and supervised, with clear rules—prohibition of violence, vandalism, concealment of faces, and mandatory adherence to the defined route—the protest degenerated into clashes with the police, fires, and destruction of public and private property. Police seized dangerous objects such as knives, axes, retractable batons, gas cylinders, fireworks, pyrotechnic devices, balaclavas, and other concealment materials. A vehicle was set on fire, public benches were vandalized, shop windows were broken, and projectiles were thrown at law enforcement. The city was once again taken hostage by radical groups. The young Swiss UDC (Democratic Union of the Centre) reacted firmly and demanded a strong response from the authorities. “Systematic identification of the vandals, criminal proceedings, perimeter bans, and full compensation for the damages. The organizers must also assume their responsibility and cooperate with the police,” the movement declared in an official statement. “This is not democratic protest. It is pure contempt for Geneva, its inhabitants, its merchants, the police, and the rule of law,” the UDC added.

  • Freedom of expression cannot serve as a safe-conduct for those who arrive prepared for confrontation, with their faces covered and armed with objects that reveal a clear intention of violence. Those who come equipped to destroy do not come to defend a cause—they come to impose chaos. The episode reinforces the warning from conservative Swiss sectors about the risks of excessive tolerance towards far-left groups that, under the pretext of protest, promote veritable acts of urban vandalism. Geneva authorities have not yet released the final tally of injured or detained individuals, but images show the city center with clear marks of destruction.
