Viral Jeffrey Epstein look-alike 'Palm Beach Pete' says comparisons started because of the NY Post
The man known on social media as “Palm Beach Pete,” who went viral for his striking physical resemblance to Jeffrey Epstein, stated in an exclusive interview that the comparisons began after the New York Post published photos of him in Palm Beach in February 2026. The tabloid's post, titled “Epstein’s ghost spotted in Palm Beach?”, accumulated millions of views and generated memes, conspiracy theories, and even death threats against the alleged “lookalike.” Pete, a 58-year-old local resident, denies any connection to Epstein and says the resemblance is “pure genetic coincidence.”
- The man who became a social media sensation as "Palm Beach Pete"—due to his shocking resemblance to the pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein—gave his first exclusive interview and attributed the start of the viral phenomenon directly to the tabloid New York Post. According to Pete, it all started when the newspaper published a photo of him walking on Palm Beach on February 12, 2026, with the provocative headline: “Epstein’s ghost spotted in Palm Beach?”. The publication, which included side-by-side comparative images and speculated about “the return of Epstein’s ghost,” exploded in views (more than 18 million in 48 hours) and gave rise to an avalanche of memes, deepfake videos, and conspiracy theories that Epstein was alive and hiding in Florida. “I never asked for this.I woke up to thousands of messages calling me a pedophile, a ghost, Epstein reincarnated. I received death threats. All because of a photo the NY Post took without me noticing,” Pete said in an interview with the independent podcast “Florida Files”.
- Pete's real name is Peter Langford, a 58-year-old retired real estate agent, born and raised in Palm Beach. He claims he never met Epstein, never visited his mansion, and that the resemblance is merely "bad genetics." "I have the same type of nose, chin, deep-set eyes, and premature baldness. But I'm 15 centimeters shorter and 30 kilos lighter. I'm not him. Epstein was a monster; I'm just a guy who likes to fish and play golf," he declared.
- Despite his denials, Pete's image became one of the most shared memes of 2026. Phrases like "When you realize Palm Beach Pete is just Epstein on a keto diet" and montages with Epstein in sunglasses and a straw hat dominate TikTok, X, and Reddit. Conspiracy groups claim that "the system keeps him alive as bait" or that "he had reverse plastic surgery to hide." Pete says he has already hired a lawyer and plans to sue the NY Post for defamation and invasion of privacy. The New York Post defended the publication as "legitimate journalism in the public interest" and said the photos were taken in a public place. “We are not claiming it was Epstein. We are only showing the striking resemblance,” stated a spokesperson for the tabloid.
- The viral spread reignited debates about journalistic ethics, post-Epstein conspiracy theories, and the destructive power of social media. Meanwhile, Palm Beach Pete – now recognized on the streets – is trying to return to normal life: “I want this to end. I’m not a meme. I’m a human being.”
