Portugal to request independent audit from the European Union to clarify blackout
The Government of Portugal will request an independent audit from the European Union to determine the causes of the power outage that affected the Iberian Peninsula and other European countries.

The Government of Portugal has announced that it will formally request the European Union to conduct an independent audit to determine the causes of the power outage that affected much of the Iberian Peninsula and other European countries last week.
The measure was confirmed this morning by the Portuguese Prime Minister, who stressed the need to "transparently clarify" the reasons behind the energy collapse that left millions of citizens without power for several hours.
"It is essential to know precisely what happened and what failures triggered the massive interruption of electricity service," the president declared. "Only with an independent audit can we ensure that all factors are identified and the necessary corrective measures are taken."
The blackout, which also affected Spain, Andorra, and partially affected France, Italy, and Germany, caused massive disruptions to critical infrastructure and generated concern across Europe about the stability of the electricity system.
Portuguese authorities are seeking an investigation to evaluate the role of national and international operators, as well as the effectiveness of current security protocols. The request will be formalized with the European Commission in the coming days.
Meanwhile, several countries have already announced their own measures to address the crisis. Spain is currently investigating the ruling internally, while other governments have called for greater energy coordination at the European level.
