Spain demands answers from the Government after the massive national power outage
The massive blackout that affected much of the country forces the Spanish government to be accountable to its citizens and the European Union for its lack of foresight and failures in the electricity grid.

Pressure on the Spanish government is mounting after the massive blackout that left millions of citizens without power on Monday. With much of the country paralyzed for several hours, political, social, and civic sectors are demanding a clear and detailed explanation from the executive branch about what happened.
The sudden loss of 15 gigawatts of power from the Spanish electricity system, as confirmed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez himself, caused chaos in urban centers, hospitals, transportation, and communications networks. Although power was almost completely restored in a matter of hours, the incident has raised alarm bells about the resilience of the national energy grid.
"The Spanish government will have to offer the explanations it owes to its citizens and Europe regarding the massive blackout," warned opposition leaders in Congress. Doubts about the capacity of Red Eléctrica and the role of its president, Beatriz Corredor—a former Socialist minister—have also begun to shape the political agenda.
From Brussels, European officials have requested a preliminary report on what is considered a technical failure of "enormous magnitude," with implications for the entire continental energy grid.
Amid a climate of tension and criticism, the government has pledged to appear in the coming hours to explain what happened and the measures it will take to prevent the country from going dark again.
El Gobierno de España tendrá que ofrecer las explicaciones que le debe a los ciudadanos y a Europa sobre el gran apagón.
Todo se sabrá.
