Alejandro Salas resigns from defending Martín Vizcarra in Congress due to lack of legislators
Alejandro Salas resigned from defending former President Martín Vizcarra before Congress, considering the massive absence of legislators at the session a lack of respect.

Lawyer and former minister Alejandro Salas announced his resignation from defending former President Martín Vizcarra before Congress, in protest at the limited number of parliamentarians present during the session in which a possible political disqualification of the former president was being debated.
Salas described the legislative branch's attitude as "a lack of respect for due process and democracy," noting that he came forward with solid arguments and a willingness to engage in dialogue, but found himself facing a half-empty chamber.
"I came here with institutional respect and legal arguments. The minimum expected is reciprocity, and that hasn't existed. Therefore, I am withdrawing from this defense," he declared, visibly annoyed, to the press.
The ongoing process seeks to ban Vizcarra from public office for 10 years due to alleged irregularities during his administration. However, the session was postponed due to a lack of a quorum, which also generated criticism on social media.
Martín Vizcarra, for his part, thanked Salas and questioned the "political exploitation of Congress," reiterating that the accusations against him are baseless.
The disqualification is still pending a vote, and it is unknown whether a new date will be set or whether Congress will close the case due to a lack of consensus.
