National Police Reminds the Public that Spain Remains at Level 4 Terrorist Alert

The National Police reminded the public this Tuesday that Spain remains at Level 4 of its terrorist alert system, one of the highest levels within the system for preventing threats to national security.

The alert, disseminated through official channels and social media, underscores the need to maintain heightened security measures in public spaces, critical infrastructure, transportation hubs, mass gatherings, and tourist destinations. Authorities emphasized that the goal is to prevent potential incidents and act swiftly in response to any suspicious behavior.

Level 4 implies a visible increase in police and military presence on streets, at stations, airports, and in strategic buildings, as well as enhanced controls and intelligence gathering. This alert level is activated when the risk of an attack is considered high, even if there is no concrete or imminent threat.

Sources at the Ministry of the Interior explained that these measures are part of a permanent prevention strategy adopted following the attacks in Europe over the past decade. Since then, Spain has maintained a reinforced security framework to anticipate potential attacks.

Authorities also requested public cooperation, recommending that any unusual or suspicious activity be reported immediately to emergency services. “Prevention is a shared responsibility,” the police stated.

The reminder comes in an international context of tension and reinforcement of security protocols in several European countries, which has led Spanish security forces to maintain caution and active surveillance throughout the national territory.
