Trump announces that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint bombing
Amid a military escalation between Iran, the United States, and Israel, President Donald Trump stated that the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed during coordinated airstrikes. Tehran denies confirmation.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Saturday that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed in airstrikes coordinated by US and Israeli forces. Trump posted the information on social media, describing Khamenei as "one of the most malevolent people in history" and stating that his death represents "the greatest chance for the Iranian people to retake their country."
According to the American president, the attacks—part of a comprehensive military operation against military and leadership installations in Iran—eliminated not only Khamenei, but also other high-ranking government officials and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Trump added that the bombings will continue "throughout the week or as long as necessary" to fulfill the strategic objectives set.
In a parallel statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that there is "strong evidence" that Khamenei was killed after the compound where he was believed to be was destroyed in the military actions.
However, the Iranian government officially denied Khamenei's death. A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry told the press that the supreme leader and the president of the country are "alive and safe," contradicting the statements from Washington and Tel Aviv.
The potential assassination of Khamenei represents one of the most dramatic developments in the escalation of hostilities in the Middle East in recent years, increasing the risk of a wider conflict in the region. Reports from international agencies mention that, in addition to attacks against Iranian targets, Tehran has responded with missile and drone launches against Israeli positions and nearby American bases, intensifying military tension.
International policy experts observe that, if confirmed, the end of Khamenei's mandate—who led Iran for more than three decades—could generate a succession crisis and profound political repercussions within the country, as well as impacting geopolitical dynamics between regional and global powers.
The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with governments and international organizations calling for calm and the pursuit of diplomatic solutions in the face of increased fighting and the strategic responses of the actors involved.
