Justin Trudeau accuses US of starting trade war against Canada as he seeks rapprochement with Russia
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has slammed the US for launching a trade war against Canada as it seeks to improve relations with Russia and Vladimir Putin.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has slammed the United States following the US government's decision to impose trade measures affecting his country.
"Today, the United States has launched a trade war against Canada, its closest partner and ally, its most loyal friend. At the same time, they are talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying and murderous dictator. Explain to me how that makes sense," Trudeau said.
The Canadian leader's words reflect the growing tension between Ottawa and Washington following the imposition of new trade restrictions by the US government. Despite the historic relationship between the two countries, this decision has been perceived as a blow to bilateral economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, the US administration has shown signs of openness towards Moscow, which has raised concerns among Western allies. Trudeau insisted that Canada will continue to defend its interests and will seek a response to what it considers an unfair trade measure.
The White House has not yet officially responded to the Canadian prime minister's statements, but the issue is expected to generate a strong debate in the coming days.
