Brussels takes Spain to court for being the only EU country that does not exempt freelancers from VAT
The European Commission has decided to refer Spain to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for failing to transpose two VAT directives, including the one allowing exemption from the tax for self-employed workers and SMEs with annual turnover below €85,000. Spain is the only Member State that has not incorporated these rules, and Brussels is requesting financial penalties for the breach.
