New York, USA — An air tragedy struck New York City this Thursday afternoon when a Bell 206L-4 helicopter crashed into the Hudson River. A Spanish family was on board, according to sources at the Spanish Consulate in the city.

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from a private helipad on the west side of Manhattan. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter lose stability and abruptly plummet into the water, a few meters from the shore.

Emergency crews, including the Coast Guard and specialized divers from the New York Fire Department (FDNY), immediately responded to the scene. All occupants were rescued alive, although at least two family members are reported to be in serious condition and were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

"The pilot managed to issue an emergency signal seconds before impact, which allowed for a rapid response," said an FDNY spokesperson.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has already launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The Bell 206L-4 is a model commonly used for sightseeing flights in the city, although weather conditions at the time of the incident were considered stable.

The identities of the passengers have not been revealed out of respect for their privacy, but the Spanish consulate has offered assistance to the families and remains in contact with local authorities.
