During Palm Sunday Mass at the Vatican, Pope Francis received a long round of applause from the approximately 40,000 faithful present, wishing everyone a "Happy Holy Week."

Vatican, April 13, 2025 — In an emotional moment in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis was warmly applauded by thousands of faithful during the traditional Palm Sunday Mass, which marks the beginning of Holy Week in the Christian calendar.
Around 40,000 people attended the ceremony, many moved to see the Pontiff, who has faced recent health problems, participating with visible effort and faith. At the end of the Mass, Francis greeted those present with simple and touching words: “I wish you all a Happy Holy Week.”
The gesture was greeted with a prolonged round of applause, which echoed throughout the square as a sign of support and affection. Many of the faithful held olive branches and palm trees, symbols of the celebration, and some were moved to tears.
Holy Week continues with several liturgical activities in the Vatican, including the Chrism Mass, the celebration of the Lord's Passion and the long-awaited Easter Vigil. The Pope, despite his physical limitations, demonstrated his desire to continue to spiritually guide Catholics during this significant period.
