Chaos at Puente Piedra: Transport workers force passengers to get off vehicles during protest
Informal transport workers caused chaos at Puente Piedra by forcing passengers to get off vehicles as a protest. Authorities have not commented.

A tense situation unfolded this Thursday morning in the Lima district of Puente Piedra, where informal transport workers took radical action during a protest, forcing passengers to get off public transport vehicles and causing chaos on the area's main roads.
The incidents occurred in the midst of an unofficial strike called by a group of drivers who reject the inspection operations and sanctions imposed by the Urban Transport Authority (ATU). According to witnesses, several passengers were forced to get off in the middle of the street, some even receiving verbal threats.
“They made us all get off without explanation; they said no one would be riding today. It was very violent,” said one affected user on San Juan de Dios Avenue.
The protest paralyzed traffic for several hours and angered residents, who denounced the lack of police presence and the lack of an immediate response from the authorities.
So far, the ATU (Agricultural and Urban Development Authority) and the Municipality of Lima have not issued an official statement, while the Peruvian National Police indicated that they are evaluating images and testimonies to identify those responsible for the coercive acts.
These types of extreme measures reopen the debate about informality in urban transportation and the urgent need for comprehensive reform that guarantees citizens' right to travel safely and legally.
