Vatican confirms two bronchoscopies for Francis and maintains reserved prognosis
Pope Francis underwent two bronchoscopies to aspirate secretions. The Vatican reported that his prognosis remains reserved.

Vatican City, March 5 – The Holy See reported on Tuesday that Pope Francis underwent two bronchoscopies to aspirate secretions, after his health condition worsened. The supreme pontiff remains under observation at the Gemelli hospital in Rome, and doctors have decided to resume mechanical ventilation to assist his breathing.
The Vatican spokesman said the Pope's prognosis remains reserved, although he remains stable within the seriousness of his condition. "The Holy Father is receiving all necessary care and remains under strict medical supervision," the official source said.
Francis, 87, has faced various health problems in recent years, including respiratory infections and mobility difficulties. His last hospitalization was in November 2023, when he suffered from lung inflammation that required treatment with antibiotics.
The Vatican has not yet issued information on possible changes to the papal agenda or the need to delegate functions. However, the Catholic community and world leaders have expressed their concern and sent messages of support to the pontiff at this delicate time.
A new report on his evolution is expected in the next few hours.
