Pedro Sánchez explains the origin of the massive blackout in Spain: "We lost 15 gigawatts in five seconds"
Pedro Sánchez reveals that the sudden loss of 15 gigawatts of generation in just five seconds was the main cause of the massive blackout in Spain.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez offered an official explanation on Monday for the massive blackout that left millions of Spaniards without electricity for hours. As detailed in an extraordinary press conference, "at 12:33 p.m., 15 gigawatts of electricity generation were suddenly lost from the system in just five seconds."
Sánchez described the event as "unprecedented" in the country's recent energy history and noted that teams from Red Eléctrica Española and the Ministry for Ecological Transition are working to clarify all the details.
The president avoided immediately attributing the failure to sabotage or a cyberattack, although he did not rule out any hypothesis. "We are analyzing all possibilities, including a massive technical failure or external intervention," he indicated.
The blackout particularly affected large urban centers such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville, causing disruptions to transportation services, hospitals, telecommunications, and businesses.
Meanwhile, authorities are urging the public to remain calm and assure them that the electrical system has partially stabilized, although they warn that further intermittent outages could occur throughout the day.
Pedro Sánchez confirmed that a full preliminary report will be published in the coming hours and promised measures to strengthen the security of the national electricity system.
