While much of Spain grappled with the uncertainty and chaos of the massive blackout, some sectors took advantage of the crisis to record historic sales figures. Supermarkets owned by Juan Roig, president of Mercadona, experienced a veritable avalanche of shoppers desperate to stock up on basic goods.

In just a few hours, stores reached record sales. The surprise for many was that, despite the widespread power outages, the payment terminals continued to operate without problems, allowing most transactions to proceed normally.

"It was incredible: there was no light outside, but inside the payment terminals worked as if nothing had happened," commented a customer at a supermarket in Madrid. "It seemed like they knew this could happen."

The phenomenon has generated mixed reactions: while some applaud the chain's logistical capacity, others point out that the main victims of the blackout were precisely the citizens' pockets, who had to spend large sums in a very short time to secure supplies.

Although the government is still investigating the causes and the true extent of the blackout damage, provisional supermarket sales figures indicate an increase of more than 300% compared to a typical day.

Juan Roig, for his part, has not yet made any public statements, but sources close to the businessman indicated that a special plan has been activated to guarantee supply in the coming days in the event of possible aftershocks of the energy crisis.
