Zelensky meets in Rome with Trump, Macron, von der Leyen, and Starmer in a new push for peace in Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky leads a historic meeting in Rome with Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Ursula von der Leyen, and Keir Starmer to seek solutions to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
In a crucial attempt to stop the war in Eastern Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met today in Rome with key figures in world politics: former US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The meeting, held at the Quirinal Palace under strict security measures, marks one of the most ambitious diplomatic efforts to date to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict that has devastated Ukraine since 2022.
According to official sources, the meeting focused on three fundamental pillars: an immediate cessation of hostilities, international guarantees for Ukrainian sovereignty, and a post-war reconstruction plan with global support. Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his intention to act as a mediator, proposed new rounds of direct negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
For their part, Macron and Von der Leyen stressed the importance of maintaining European unity in the face of Russian aggression, while Starmer insisted on the need for a solid international legal framework for any peace agreement.
In his remarks after the meeting, Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the "firm support and genuine will" of the leaders present, although he acknowledged that "the road to peace will be long and complicated."
A joint statement containing the main agreements reached in Rome is expected to be issued in the coming hours.
