The president of the VOX party and leader of the opposition, Santiago Abascal, participated this Monday in a mass demonstration in front of La Moncloa Palace, the seat of the Spanish government, to protest against the policies of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and the leadership of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Thousands of people gathered waving Spanish flags and chanting slogans such as "Government, resign!" and "Santiago and close Spain!"—a historic slogan of the Reconquista, revived as a symbolic battle cry by VOX supporters.

"We didn't come to ask, we came to demand: elections now, respect for the nation, and an end to separatist blackmail," Abascal declared during his address to the protesters.

Demands of the event
The rally was called by various civic platforms and supported by VOX, with the aim of denouncing the PSOE's pacts with pro-independence parties, the country's economic situation, and what they describe as "institutional erosion" under the current government.

Abascal, accompanied by several leaders of his party, called for continued mobilization "until constitutional order and respect for the unity of Spain are restored."

Government Reactions
PSOE spokespersons described the demonstration as "an act of confrontation unworthy of a responsible opposition" and accused VOX of fostering a "climate of social tension."

The Minister of the Presidency declared that "the streets do not legislate, and populism will not govern Spain."
