Three earthquakes shake Piura in less than an hour
Three consecutive earthquakes were recorded in less than an hour in the city of Talara, Piura, causing alarm among residents of northern Peru.

Three seismic movements were recorded within minutes of each other this Friday in the province of Talara, in the Piura region, in northern Peru. The tremors occurred in less than an hour, causing great concern among citizens who left their homes as a precaution.
The Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported that the seismic events occurred between 7:34 p.m. and 8:20 p.m., with preliminary magnitudes ranging from 4.2 to 5.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located offshore, off the coast of Talara.
No serious material damage or casualties have been reported so far, but local authorities and INDECI (National Institute of Statistics and Census) have activated infrastructure monitoring and evaluation protocols, especially in hospitals, schools, and vulnerable areas.
“We felt three strong earthquakes, one after the other. People ran out into the street,” said a resident of the Pariñas area.
The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) recommended that the population remain calm and follow the instructions of the authorities, in addition to checking their emergency backpacks and evacuation routes.
Experts noted that northern Peru is located in an active seismic zone, so these types of events, while alarming, are not unusual.
